Barbara Crampton and Desiree Staples Light Up Après-Ski Cult Horror-Comedy The Blue Diamond, Now Streaming on Canal+ and Kanopy

Desiree Staples faces more than grief at a neon-lit après-ski lodge in The Blue Diamond.

After a buzzy international festival run, Sam Fox’s genre-blending horror-comedy The Blue Diamond has officially landed on streaming. The 1980s ski-lodge-set short—starring Desiree Staples (My Divorce Party) and Barbara Crampton (Re-Animator, Jakob’s Wife)—is now available via Canal+ and Kanopy, with a Canal+ broadcast feature slated for later this year.

Directed by Fox and written by Addison Heimann (Hypochondriac, Touch Me), The Blue Diamond is set in a neon-drenched, cultish après-ski club where sequins, sorrow, and sinister secrets collide. The story follows a grieving daughter who seeks closure following the death of her toxic mother—only to realize the line between memory and manipulation is far more dangerous than expected. But in a 1980s ski club, especially one laced with occult energy, nothing is ever what it seems.

Fox, known for surreal and boundary-pushing shorts (Fck’n Nuts, Open Wide), crafts a vibrant visual playground that combines icy nostalgia with body horror and biting wit. Heimann’s script offers a delicate balance of absurdity and emotional excavation—something that has earned The Blue Diamond accolades across a diverse spread of festivals, including Grimmfest, Etheria, Beyond Fest, Nightmares Film Festival, L’Étrange, Final Girls Berlin, and FilmQuest, where it took home awards for Best Ensemble Cast, Most Exceptionally Weird and Disturbing Film, and multiple Best of the Year nods.

At the heart of the short is the dynamic between Staples and Crampton—delivering both laughs and layered emotional weight in a compact runtime. Their scenes burn with generational tension, dark humor, and a kind of haunted catharsis only genre can properly mine.

The Blue Diamond is produced by Geenah Krisht and Staples, with executive production by Monique Charbonneau under the DesiMo Productions banner. Distribution is handled by Ouat Media, and its arrival on Canal+ marks a major win for short-form horror finding a path to international audiences.
