FANTASTIC FEST 2020' 'The Stylist' - movie review

While it's easy to talk about first features and how impactful they are to a young filmmakers career, sometimes it's best to get straight to the nitty gritty. When imagining what a full feature of the beloved short from Jill Sixx Gevargizian THE STYLIST would like like, my number one question was...how would the kills be executed? What would be the Sixx imprint in the horror world that would leave a lasting impression and show her potential to have audiences fall in love with her work? These questions and so much more are answered throughout THE STYLIST A film that combines a crystal aesthetic with a looming sense of loneliness, sorrow and down right violence. And here at HMU one thing we love is pure violence!

THE STYLIST should appeal to fans across genres as the crew collectively puts together a solid tale of despair in the Claire's delusional plight. While you may get lost in the well crafted scenery and gloss of THE STYLIST, Sixx and crew instantly draw you back in with the stellar performances of Townsend and Grant. Turning a short into a full feature doesn't seem like it would be an easy task but this production was up to it, making sure THE STYLIST is a worthy offering. Honestly there is still so much more I wanted from Townsend in the film because there was a feeling of monotony starting to build with her character toward the latter portions. Still you can't deny the attention to detail paid to each scene which provided great transitions to a story that the viewers will get drawn into early. This was a very captivting first feature for Jill Sixx and the crew and we are looking forward to what they may bring to the table next!

3.5/5
