Can you believe we're less than a week away from September? It feels like just yesterday we were in the streets of Kansas City, MO, attending a screening of "Azrael," the latest creation from HMU favorites E. L. Katz and Simon Barrett. We thoroughly enjoyed the film's style, atmosphere, and pacing, all led by a standout performance from Samara Weaving, who deserves just as much praise as any leading lady this year. Her piercing eyes are unforgettable in the film, as you can see from the new poster released last week. IFC Films and Shudder, now seemingly one company, have also shared new images for you to check out ahead of the film's release in theaters on September 27th.
"Azrael" is set in a world where no one speaks, following a mysterious, devout community that hunts down a young woman named Azrael (Samara Weaving) after she escapes their imprisonment. Recaptured by the community's ruthless leaders, she is to be sacrificed to appease an evil residing deep within the surrounding wilderness. However, Azrael will stop at nothing to secure her freedom and survival. This gritty, relentless parable of sacrifice and salvation offers an immersive, real-time action horror experience from the visionary minds of Simon Barrett and E.L. Katz.
