Cineverse Acquires U.S. Rights to Return to Silent Hill, Christophe Gans’ Terrifying Return to the Iconic Franchise

This morning, Cineverse officially stepped into the horror gaming space with the acquisition of U.S. rights for Return to Silent Hill, the newest film in the Silent Hill franchise. Based on Konami’s beloved Silent Hill 2 video game, the film is directed by Christophe Gans, who helmed the original 2006 Silent Hill adaptation, and features a screenplay by Strange Darling’s J.T. Mollner. The announcement arrives just ahead of the Cannes Film Festival, with a wide theatrical release date to be announced soon.

Starring Jeremy Irvine (War Horse) and Hannah Emily Anderson (Jigsaw), Return to Silent Hill follows James, a heartbroken man haunted by a mysterious letter from his ex, Mary. The letter draws him back to Silent Hill—the town they once shared—only to find it transformed by a malevolent force. As James navigates twisted monsters and unraveling reality, he discovers that the path to Mary leads through layers of terror and devastating truths.

The film promises to be a faithful adaptation of Silent Hill 2, with Konami’s recently acclaimed remake of the game setting the stage for renewed interest in the franchise. The film’s visual effects have been completed, and anticipation is high as Cineverse prepares to bring this fan-favorite property back to the big screen.

Return to Silent Hill also features a powerhouse production team: Victor Hadida of Davis Films (Resident Evil, Silent Hill), Molly Hassell (Terminal, Braven), and David Wulf (Call Jane, The Card Counter). Akira Yamaoka, the legendary composer for the original games, returns to score the film.

“As we continue to build our slate of theatrical releases, we couldn’t be more thrilled to add the next chapter of a billion-dollar, multi-platform franchise,” said Cineverse Chief Content Officer Yolanda Macias. “The Silent Hill films have already grossed over $156 million worldwide, and this next installment will be a major moment for horror fans.”

“Christophe Gans has once again masterfully captured the haunting atmosphere of Silent Hill 2,” added Brandon Hill, Executive Director of Acquisitions at Cineverse.

Gans shared his excitement: “Return to Silent Hill was created with deep respect for the original game. I’m honored to partner with Cineverse to bring this vision to U.S. audiences.”

Cineverse’s upcoming horror slate includes The Toxic Avenger (August 29, 2025), Silent Night Deadly Night (December 12, 2025), and Wolf Creek: Legacy in 2026.

The U.S. deal for Return to Silent Hill was negotiated by Macias and Hill for Cineverse, with CAA Media Finance representing the producers. International rights are being handled by The Veterans at the Cannes Film Market.
