Netflix Sets February 2027 Premiere for ‘The One Piece’ Anime Reboot

Netflix is officially setting sail once again with one of the most influential manga properties of all time. The One Piece, a brand-new anime adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s legendary series, is set to premiere in February 2027, bringing the story back to its origins with a fresh creative approach.

Produced by WIT STUDIO—the powerhouse behind visually distinct anime like Attack on Titan (early seasons) and Vinland Saga—the series will retell the story from the very beginning of the East Blue saga. This marks a full-scale reintroduction to the world of pirates, ambition, and adventure that has defined One Piece for nearly three decades.

Originally serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump in 1997, Oda’s manga has grown into a global phenomenon, surpassing 600 million copies in circulation as of March 2026. With The One Piece, Netflix and WIT STUDIO are aiming to modernize that legacy while staying faithful to the emotional core that made it resonate worldwide.

The newly released concept art offers a grounded, nostalgic entry point into the story—highlighting a moment in Windmill Village, where a young Monkey D. Luffy shares time with Shanks and his Red-Hair Pirates. Set inside the warmly lit PARTYS BAR, the image captures a softer side of the world: laughter, mentorship, and the quiet beginnings of something much larger.

It’s a strategic tonal choice. Rather than opening with spectacle, The One Piece appears focused on grounding its characters first—particularly Luffy’s early influences and the emotional foundation that drives his journey.

Season 1 is expected to cover roughly the first 50 chapters of the manga across seven episodes, totaling around 300 minutes. The arc will lead up to Luffy’s encounter with Sanji at the Baratie, setting the stage for the formation of the Straw Hat crew.

The creative team behind the series reinforces its pedigree. Masashi Koizuka serves as director, with Taku Kishimoto handling series composition. Character design is led by Kyoji Asano and Takatoshi Honda, ensuring a balance between modern animation standards and the recognizable style fans expect.

For longtime fans, The One Piece represents an opportunity to revisit the story with updated pacing and animation. For newcomers, it’s a clean entry point into a world that can otherwise feel overwhelming due to its scale.

Either way, Netflix isn’t just revisiting a classic—they’re attempting to reframe it for a new generation. And if WIT STUDIO delivers on its track record, The One Piece could become one of the most significant anime releases of 2027.
