Dark Star Pictures Uncorks 70s-Inspired Horror WINEVILLE in September
Get ready for a chilling trip back to the 70s as Dark Star Pictures releases WINEVILLE, a wine-soaked horror/slasher, in select theaters on September 6th, followed by a VOD/Digital and Physical Media release on September 10, 2024.
WINEVILLE marks the directorial debut of Brande Roderick, best known for her role as Leigh Dyer on Baywatch. Roderick, who has appeared in Starsky and Hutch, The Nanny Diaries, and Celebrity Apprentice, is set to star in Hulu’s upcoming docuseries After Baywatch: Moment in the Sun. With WINEVILLE, she steps behind the camera to deliver a horror film heavily inspired by 70s classics like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Last House on the Left.
Set in the 70s, WINEVILLE follows a woman who, after escaping her abusive father as a teen, is forced to return to the family vineyard to settle his affairs upon his death. What she finds there is far worse than she could have imagined—dark secrets that have only grown more sinister over the decades, fermenting into violence and death.
The film was shot at the historic Galleano Winery and makes reference to the Wineville Chicken Coop Murders, one of California’s most infamous true crime cases. These brutal crimes eventually led to the renaming of Wineville to Mira Loma.
In addition to Roderick, WINEVILLE features a strong supporting cast, including Carolyn Hennesy (General Hospital, Cougar Town), Texas Battle (Hard Kill, Coach Carter), Casey King (Star Trek: Picard), and Keaton Roderick Cadrez. The screenplay was written by Richard Schenkman (The Man From Earth), who also produced the film alongside Roderick, Robin DeMartino, and Todd Slater.
“I wanted my first feature to not only dive into the horror genre I loved growing up, but also to pay homage to the flavor and style of the 70s films that left such an impact on me,” says Roderick.
Prepare for a terrifying journey into the past when WINEVILLE arrives in theaters and on digital platforms this September!
