Filmmakers Scarlet Moreno and Josh Stifter are thrilled to announce the world premiere of their latest short film, "Little Lucha and the Big Deal," at the LA Shorts International Film Festival. The premiere will take place on Thursday, July 25th, 2024, at Regal Cinemas LA LIVE.
Co-directed and starring both Moreno and Stifter, "Little Lucha and the Big Deal" is a nostalgic homage to 80s pro-wrestling. The film follows the journey of aspiring wrestling superstars Little Lucha and his partner The Big Deal as they navigate both the ring and their personal lives in pursuit of their dreams.
“Little Lucha and The Big Deal is one of the most heartfelt films I’ve been a part of creating," said Moreno. "It’s got an ‘art mirrors life’ aspect for me as it’s a story of two people, nearly at the end of their ropes, doing everything in their power to make a dream come true. And what artist or creative doesn’t know that feeling?"
The film is a celebration of underdogs, showcasing the less glamorous side of chasing an impossible dream. Filled with glory, gore, and heartfelt moments, it captures the hope, blood, and tears required to make dreams come true.
"I'm elated to be able to premiere the film at a festival as prestigious as LA Shorts International Film Festival," said Stifter. "This movie reflects so much of what I love and believe in as an artist. The struggles, the joy, the families you form. And wrestling!"
Complete with theatrical elements, extravagant costumes, and the over-the-top posturing that made pro-wrestling iconic, "Little Lucha and the Big Deal" is both an homage to 80s wrestling stars and a metaphor for every artist’s journey.
"I’m so excited to put this story into the world and see what these larger-than-life characters elicit from an audience," said Moreno.
