A24 Circles a New Nightmare: Josh Hutcherson, Frank Dillane, Caleb Landry Jones & Whitmer Thomas in Talks for Arkasha Stevenson’s Latest Horror

A24 is quietly assembling another stacked genre ensemble, and this time the terror begins with a bachelor party. Josh Hutcherson, Frank Dillane, Caleb Landry Jones, and Whitmer Thomas are all in talks to join the untitled horror feature from director Arkasha Stevenson, reuniting her with co-writer Tim Smith after their breakout debut The First Omen.

While A24 is keeping the logline locked in a basement somewhere with the lights off, early word says the story centers on a bachelor weekend that spirals into full-blown terror—a premise that, given Stevenson’s unnerving command of dread in The First Omen, is likely to hit far darker territory than the usual bro-weekend-from-hell setups.

The film is backed by Lars Knudsen and Emily Hildner under the Square Peg banner, with Ari Aster executive producing, which already tells you everything you need to know about the tone: prestige carnage, atmosphere thick enough to choke on, and a creative team that thrives on tapping into the uncanny.

Hutcherson continues his run across genres, currently seen in HBO’s I Love LA and returning soon in the Five Nights at Freddy’s sequel. Dillane follows his strong performance in Joan and heads into Focus Features’ new Sense and Sensibility. Caleb Landry Jones—never one to shy away from the deeply strange—has Dracula with Luc Besson and the upcoming Down the Arm of God. Whitmer Thomas recently appeared in the hit Weapons for New Line.

For Stevenson, this marks a swift follow-up after proving she can deliver both intense mythology and chilling atmosphere with The First Omen. With A24 and Square Peg backing her again, this new project is already shaping up to be one of the most anticipated horror productions on the horizon.

Casting hasn’t officially closed, but the talent circling this one is reason enough to start paying attention. More details—and hopefully a title—will drop soon, but for now, every sign points to A24 loading up another nightmare.
