A24 Vampire Thriller ‘Flesh Of The Gods’ Begins Production With Kristen Stewart, Wagner Moura and New Cast Additions

Production is officially underway on Flesh of the Gods, the upcoming vampire thriller from filmmaker Panos Cosmatos, with new cast members joining the project ahead of the Cannes Film Market.

The film stars Kristen Stewart and Wagner Moura and is currently filming in the Canary Islands, Spain, before moving into the second phase of production in Cologne, Germany.

New additions to the cast include Esmé Creed-Miles, Roland Møller, and Alba Baptista.

Set in 1980s Los Angeles, the film follows married couple Raoul and Alex, played by Stewart and Moura, who spend their nights navigating an underground nightlife scene filled with excess, danger, and surreal encounters. According to the synopsis, the pair become entangled with a mysterious figure known as Nameless and her crew, pulling them deeper into a violent and hedonistic world.

The screenplay was written by Andrew Kevin Walker, known for Se7en, based on a story developed by Walker and Cosmatos.

The project continues Cosmatos’ relationship with XYZ Films following collaborations on Mandy and the upcoming project Nekrokosm, which is also in development with A24.

The film is being produced by Hyperobject Industries, Augenschein Filmproduktion, Nevermind Pictures, and XYZ Films. Financing is being handled by XYZ Films and YouRoc in association with IPR.VC and Vixens.

A24 previously acquired domestic rights to the film, while XYZ Films continues handling international sales during the Cannes market.

For horror audiences, Flesh of the Gods continues Panos Cosmatos’ movement deeper into visually stylized genre filmmaking following the cult success of Mandy. The combination of vampire mythology, 1980s nightlife aesthetics, and Cosmatos’ surreal visual style has already made the project one of the more closely watched genre productions currently in development.

Esmé Creed-Miles recently wrapped production on A Head Full of Ghosts opposite Rebecca Hall and also appeared in Kristen Stewart’s directorial debut The Chronology of Water.

Roland Møller is known for roles in Atomic Blonde, Papillon, and the Amazon series Citadel.

Alba Baptista is expected to appear next in Voltron alongside Henry Cavill and is also known for Netflix’s Warrior Nun.

No official release date for Flesh of the Gods has been announced at this time.
