Adam Wingard’s Onslaught Unleashes Super Soldier Chaos in Explosive First Trailer
If you caught Backrooms in theaters this week, chances are you already got an early look at one of the fall’s biggest action-horror releases.
The official trailer for Adam Wingard’s Onslaught has arrived, and it delivers exactly the kind of high-octane mayhem fans have come to expect from the filmmaker behind You’re Next, The Guest, and Godzilla x Kong. Based on a story by Wingard and longtime collaborator Simon Barrett, the film heads to theaters September 4.
Leading the cast is Adria Arjona as an Army sniper who finds herself facing an overwhelming threat when a rogue squad of genetically engineered super soldiers escapes into the desert. With her young daughter caught in the crossfire, survival becomes a fight against an enemy designed for war.
The trailer wastes little time establishing its tone. Explosions light up the desert landscape, military hardware is pushed to its limits, and heavily enhanced soldiers tear through everything standing in their way. The footage blends action, horror, and science fiction into what appears to be one of the more aggressive genre offerings arriving this fall.
Joining Arjona is an impressive ensemble that includes Dan Stevens, Eric Wareheim, Reginald VelJohnson, Michael Biehn, UFC heavyweight Alex Pereira, Drew Starkey, and Rebecca Hall.
For genre fans, the reunion of Wingard and Barrett is reason enough to pay attention. The duo helped define a wave of modern horror with films such as You’re Next and The Guest, combining sharp genre instincts with memorable characters and inventive action sequences. Onslaught appears to continue that tradition while expanding into larger-scale territory.
The trailer also showcases practical destruction, military action, and creature-feature energy that feels closer to a classic action-horror hybrid than a traditional studio blockbuster. There are shades of 1980s and 1990s action cinema throughout the footage, mixed with the slick presentation Wingard has developed over the course of his career.
Whether audiences discovered the trailer through Backrooms screenings or are seeing it for the first time online, Onslaught has quickly become one of the most talked-about genre releases on the September calendar.
Onslaught arrives exclusively in theaters on September 4.
