Andy Chen’s Another Begins Production in Hollywood with Bob Morley, India de Beaufort, and Genre Icons Doug Jones & Heather Langenkamp
As mentioned in this morning’s episode of The Final Cut, production is officially underway on Another, the highly anticipated psychological horror debut from filmmaker Andy Chen. Set to explore the terrifying intersections of grief, memory, and fractured reality, Another stars Bob Morley (The 100) and India de Beaufort (Night Court) in lead roles, with genre royalty Doug Jones (The Shape of Water, Pan’s Labyrinth) and Heather Langenkamp (A Nightmare on Elm Street) rounding out a powerhouse ensemble.
Written by Chen and Alexander Hernandez-Maxwell, the film follows Joey (de Beaufort), a grieving author haunted by the sudden death of her husband, Ben (Morley), a brilliant physicist. When she wakes one morning to find Ben inexplicably alive and making breakfast in their kitchen, her reality begins to crack. What follows is a slow descent into psychological chaos as Joey must confront the very fabric of her reality—and what lies beyond it.
Filming is currently underway in Los Angeles, including at Cinepacks Studios in Burbank, Chen’s own virtual production space equipped with cutting-edge LED video walls. In an industry climate where getting a feature greenlit in LA feels almost miraculous, Another stands out not just for getting made—but for doing it independently and with ambition.
Chen reunites with longtime collaborators Artin John and Kealani Kitaura, who are producing the film alongside Range Media Partners. The trio previously worked on several viral horror hits, including The Spider (starring Chandler Riggs), Gateway Drug (optioned by Jeff Robinov), and Fiona, a live-action short inspired by DreamWorks characters.
“Another is more than just a horror film,” Chen says. “It’s a meditation on grief, love, and the shifting nature of reality. I’m drawing influence from Shyamalan, Nolan, and Villeneuve—filmmakers who take audiences somewhere immersive and unsettling. That’s the kind of story I want to tell.”
Rounding out the cast are Anna Akana (A Million Little Things), bringing even more genre pedigree to an already loaded roster. Producer Artin John, currently working on a major studio feature in Australia, brings experience from roles in SWAT, The X-Files, Thirteen Lives, and Legends of Tomorrow. John and Kitaura are also developing several new features, including the sci-fi comic adaptation Druuna and the indie comedy Zafs Catering.
“Andy’s storytelling always surprises you,” says John. “He’s not chasing trends—he’s creating mood and emotion that linger. We’ve built a creative family over years, and Another is our biggest step forward yet.”
Chen’s breakout short Close Your Eyes earned him a Fangoria Chainsaw Award for Best Short in 2023, putting him on the radar alongside genre heavyweights like Jordan Peele and John Carpenter. With Another, he’s aiming to level up again—and drag audiences into something deeply personal, powerfully immersive, and wholly unforgettable.
