Official Dark Hollow Trailer Descends Into the Appalachian Mines for a Claustrophobic Creature Nightmare

There are few environments naturally better suited for horror than the depths of a coal mine, and Brainstorm Media’s upcoming creature feature Dark Hollow looks ready to take full advantage of it.

The official trailer has arrived for the new horror film from writer-director Daniel Byers, with Dark Hollow heading to select theaters and On Demand September 4, 2026.

Set around an Appalachian mining community, the film follows a young mother forced into a fight for survival after a nightmarish creature emerges from deep inside a local coal mine. With the threat moving closer to her home, she must hunt the monster herself in an attempt to protect her family and stop whatever has escaped from underground.

Byers, whose previous credits include Eradication and Aguilucho: Dance of the Harpy Eagle, appears to be leaning heavily into the natural terror of the setting. The new trailer takes viewers underground into cramped tunnels, darkness, bloodshed, and the constant uncertainty of what might be waiting just beyond the next light.

Mining has always carried its own inherent danger, and the isolated communities built around the industry provide fertile ground for horror. Generations of accidents, hazardous working conditions, economic dependence, and secrets buried beneath the surface make the Appalachian setting feel like more than simply a convenient place to hide a monster.

And from what we see in the trailer, Dark Hollow looks prepared to turn those underground spaces into an absolute bloodbath.

The narrow tunnels provide the movie with an immediate sense of claustrophobia, while the creature itself adds another layer of danger to an environment where simply finding a way out can already become a fight for survival. There is a grimy, stripped-down quality to the footage that could work particularly well for a monster movie built around characters who have nowhere to run.

Dark Hollow stars June Shreiner, David Garelik, J. Stephen Brantley, Brennon Weese, Ian Deighan, Jonathan Spivey, Sean Michael Wilkinson, Sharon Murray, Harvey Roberts, Brian O’Neill, Annie Cook, and Radu Spinghel.

Byers also produces alongside Zachary Ludescher, Justin Herman, George Henry Horton, Ryan Scaringe, Jonathan Bloch, Will Pinke, Jacob Serlen, Vinay Chowdry, and Juan Dominguez.

The combination of Appalachian folklore territory, an underground creature, and the sheer claustrophobia of being trapped inside a mine gives Dark Hollow plenty to work with. Now we’ll see whether the full film can deliver on the bloody subterranean nightmare promised by its trailer.
