‘Beware Boiúna’ Takes Over Beyond Fest Ahead of October Theatrical Release
Beware Boiúna made its latest festival stop at Beyond Fest, with director Mike P. Nelson joining stars Kiana Madeira and Jessica Rothe on the red carpet at the Egyptian Theatre ahead of the film’s theatrical release.
The Amazon-set creature feature arrives in theaters Oct. 2, following a festival run that has continued to build attention around Nelson’s latest entry into survival horror.
Directed by Nelson from a screenplay by Alan McElroy, Beware Boiúna stars Madeira, Rothe and Logan Marshall-Green. Tony Giglio and McElroy developed the story, with Jeremy Bolt and Robert Kulzer producing.
The film follows a medical mission deep in the Amazon that becomes a fight for survival after Boiúna, an enormous ancient predator, awakens and begins reclaiming its territory.
The jungle plays an equally important role in that conflict. Rather than placing its characters against a creature in isolation, Beware Boiúna builds its survival story around an environment where the humans are intruders and nature maintains control.
Nelson previously explored survival horror as the director of Wrong Turn and Silent Night, Deadly Night. His latest film expands that approach into the Amazon, drawing on the mythology surrounding Boiúna while using the creature as the central threat in a larger battle between its characters and the wilderness around them.
Rothe continues her work in genre cinema following films including Happy Death Day and Happy Death Day 2U, while Madeira’s credits include Netflix’s Fear Street trilogy. Marshall-Green previously starred in the science-fiction thriller Upgrade and Leigh Whannell’s The Invitation.
The Beyond Fest appearance follows Beware Boiúna’s U.S. festival rollout as the film prepares to move from the festival circuit into its theatrical release.
Beware Boiúna opens in theaters Oct. 2.
