Blacklight Global Entertainment Acquires U.S. Rights to Herman Yau’s ‘We’re Nothing at All’

Blacklight Global Entertainment has acquired U.S. distribution rights to Herman Yau’s We’re Nothing at All, the latest film from the veteran Hong Kong filmmaker.
The film stars Patrick Tam, Anson Kong and Ansonbean, with Blacklight planning a U.S. rollout beginning in October 2026. The release will include special screenings and theatrical engagements, starting with a West Coast premiere Oct. 10 at The Culver Theater in Los Angeles.
Written, directed and produced by Yau, We’re Nothing at All is a self-financed production that premiered at the 50th Hong Kong International Film Festival, where it won the Audience Choice Award. The film later made its North American premiere at the New York Asian Film Festival.
The story begins on Valentine’s Day, when a double-decker bus explodes, killing multiple passengers. Evidence points toward two of the victims, Fai and Ike, a gay couple living on the margins of society and carrying their own histories of trauma.
As retired forensic expert Lung Sir investigates the explosion, he begins reconstructing the pair’s relationship and the circumstances that brought them to the day of the blast. The film uses that mystery to examine themes including abuse, homophobia, social alienation and despair.
“We’re Nothing at All is the kind of film that stays with you long after you leave the theater,” Janice Leung, managing director of Blacklight Global Entertainment, said in a statement. “Beneath the mystery at the center of the story is an incredibly human portrait of people who are too often overlooked or pushed to the margins.”
Leung added that while the film is deeply rooted in Hong Kong, its questions about love, belonging and social exclusion have broader resonance.
Yau has directed more than 100 films across a career spanning four decades. His credits include The Untold Story, Ebola Syndrome, Shock Wave, The White Storm 2: Drug Lords and Moscow Mission.
The acquisition deal was negotiated by Leung on behalf of Blacklight Global Entertainment and Golden Scene Company Limited on behalf of the filmmakers.
We’re Nothing at All begins its U.S. theatrical rollout in October, with additional screening details expected to follow.
