‘Bloody Tennis’ Trailer Turns an Elite Academy Into a Brutal Fight for Greatness

Sandra Guldberg Kampp enters a ruthless elite tennis academy in Nikias Chryssos’ Bloody Tennis, coming to Shudder September 25.

Shudder has released the official trailer for Bloody Tennis, and if the first footage is any indication, writer-director Nikias Chryssos is taking the pressure of elite athletics somewhere bloody, surreal and deeply uncomfortable.

The new Shudder Original will make its world premiere at the 2026 Locarno Film Festival before heading stateside for its North American premiere at Fantastic Fest, where Horror Movies Uncut will be catching the film during this year’s festival. Bloody Tennis will then arrive on Shudder September 25.

Written and directed by Chryssos, Bloody Tennis follows Sophie, a young player accepted into a prestigious tennis academy hidden deep in Southern Europe. What initially appears to be an opportunity to push her talent to another level gradually reveals a much darker culture surrounding the athletes.

Sophie isn’t simply competing against other young women hoping to become the best. The academy operates within an increasingly sinister environment where ambition, obedience and the pursuit of greatness begin taking precedence over friendship, romance and empathy.

The official trailer wastes little time establishing just how extreme that environment could become.

There’s an intensity to the footage that makes the academy look less like a traditional sports institution and more like something caught between The Hunger Games and Battle Royale. Training becomes punishment, competition becomes survival, and the young women appear to be pushed physically and psychologically toward whatever the institution considers perfection.

And then things get considerably stranger.

Bloody Tennis mixes the pressure cooker of elite athletics with trippy hallucinations, grotesque humor, blood-sucking leeches and increasingly nightmarish imagery. That combination gives Chryssos plenty of room to explore what happens when the desire to win becomes powerful enough to strip away everything else.

At the center is Sandra Guldberg Kampp as Sophie, whose ultimate conflict may have less to do with defeating the player across the net than deciding exactly what she is willing to sacrifice to become the athlete she has always wanted to be.

The cast also includes Elina Löwensohn, Tracy Gotoas, Helena Zengel, Zlatko Burić, Lily Taïeb, Juliana Vieira Guerra, Lucie Zhang and Vincent Romeo.

The film’s festival run should provide an early indication of whether its collision of sports drama, body horror and surrealism lands as hard as the trailer suggests. Following its world premiere at Locarno, Bloody Tennis will make its North American premiere at Fantastic Fest 2026.

HMU will be seeing the film at Fantastic Fest, so expect plenty more on Bloody Tennis as we get closer to its September release.
