Horror fans looking for a brutal new nightmare should take note—Carlos Goitia’s Play Dead is here to deliver a nerve-wracking survival story that draws inspiration from classics like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Don’t Breathe, and The Collector. Presented by Black Mandala, this chilling feature follows a woman who wakes up severely wounded, trapped in a basement filled with corpses, and must pretend to be dead to stand a chance at escaping her captor.
The film stars Paula Brasca (What the Waters Left Behind) as Alison, who finds herself gravely injured in a dark, cryptic space with no way out. As she struggles to stay alive, she quickly realizes that she isn’t just a prisoner—above her, a grotesque and ritualistic celebration is taking place. With each passing moment, the danger escalates, and Alison must rely on her instincts to outsmart the horror unfolding around her.
Directed by Carlos ‘Charly’ Goitia (Nightmare Radio: The Night Stalker, The 100 Candles Game: The Last Possession) and produced by Nicolás Onetti (1978, What the Waters Left Behind), Play Dead promises a relentless blend of tension, terror, and brutal psychological survival. The screenplay, written by Gonzalo Mellid and Camilo Zaffora, ensures a gripping and gruesome descent into fear.
