‘Dark Hollow’ Exclusive Clip Takes a Deadly Turn Inside an Appalachian Coal Mine

A trip beneath the surface quickly goes from amusing to deadly in a new clip from Brainstorm Media’s upcoming creature feature Dark Hollow.

Horror Movies Uncut has an exclusive look at the film ahead of its September 4 release in select theaters and On Demand. Written and directed by Daniel Byers, Dark Hollow takes audiences into the Appalachian Mountains, where something nightmarish has emerged from the depths of a coal mine.

The new clip offers a glimpse at what awaits underground. What initially plays as a funny exchange inside the mine abruptly shifts when the group realizes they may not be alone. The change in tone provides an early look at how Dark Hollow intends to move between its characters’ everyday interactions and the danger lurking beneath the surface.

At the center of the film is a young mother who finds herself confronting the creature after it emerges from the mine. With the threat reaching her home and family, she is forced to hunt the monster before it can cause further destruction.

Byers previously directed Eradication and Aguilucho: Dance of the Harpy Eagle. For Dark Hollow, the filmmaker is using the isolated Appalachian setting and underground mining environment as the backdrop for a story centered on a family confronting an unknown creature.

June Shreiner leads an ensemble that also includes David Garelik, J. Stephen Brantley, Brennon Weese, Ian Deighan, Jonathan Spivey, Sean Michael Wilkinson, Sharon Murray, Harvey Roberts, Brian O’Neill, Annie Cook and Radu Spinghel.

Byers also produces alongside Zachary Ludescher, Justin Herman, George Henry Horton, Ryan Scaringe, Jonathan Bloch, Will Pinke, Jacob Serlen, Vinay Chowdry and Juan Dominguez.

The Appalachian setting places Dark Hollow within a long tradition of horror stories built around remote communities, underground spaces and dangers concealed beneath familiar landscapes. The new footage keeps the creature itself largely secondary to the mounting tension, allowing the confined mine environment and sudden escalation to establish the threat.
