David Harbour Returns as Santa in the First Trailer for Violent Night 2
Universal Pictures has released the first trailer for Violent Night 2, bringing David Harbour back as Santa Claus for another round of Christmas chaos when the action comedy opens exclusively in theaters December 4.
The sequel reunites Harbour with returning director Tommy Wirkola and the 87North production team behind Bullet Train, John Wick, Atomic Blonde, The Fall Guy and the Nobody franchise. Pat Casey and Josh Miller also return to write the new installment.
After defeating a heavily armed group of mercenaries in the 2022 film, Santa begins this next chapter in a much different place. The trailer introduces a worn-down version of the Big Guy who appears to have lost his sense of purpose and his connection to the holiday he represents. That changes when a ruthless gangster begins terrorizing the merchants and customers of the Silver Bell Mall.
Jared Harris joins the sequel as the new villain, leading a criminal operation that forces Santa back into action. With his magic weakened and time running out, Saint Nick must find another way to protect the mall community and stop the violence spreading through the building.
The biggest addition to the sequel is Kristen Bell as Mrs. Claus. When Santa realizes that he may not be able to handle the situation alone, he calls on the one person the criminals are not prepared to face. The trailer presents Mrs. Claus as more than backup, suggesting she will be directly involved in the action and may be just as dangerous as her husband.
The cast also includes Joe Pantoliano, Daniela Melchior, Andrew Bachelor and AEW professional wrestler Maxwell Friedman.
The first footage opens with an almost Bad Santa style energy, presenting Harbour’s character as a down-on-his-luck Santa who has lost his way. It does not take long for the trailer to shift back into the violent holiday action that made the original film a success, complete with brutal fights, seasonal weapons and another group of criminals who underestimate the man in the red suit.
The addition of Mrs. Claus gives the sequel a new dynamic while allowing the story to explore what happens when Santa loses faith in Christmas and needs help finding his way back. The trailer keeps the same mix of holiday comedy, hard-hitting action and exaggerated violence that defined the first movie.
