DEV PATEL STARS IN QUIET, UNSETTLING FOLK HORROR RABBIT TRAP, IN THEATERS SEPTEMBER 12 FROM MAGNET
Dev Patel plays a man unraveling in the woods in Rabbit Trap, the debut feature from writer-director Bryn Chainey. After premiering at Sundance in the Midnight section, the film is set for theatrical release through Magnet Releasing on September 12.
Produced by SpectreVision (Elijah Wood and Daniel Noah), Rabbit Trap follows a couple who move to a remote part of Wales and come face-to-face with something strange—and possibly not human—after making a sound recording in the forest.
Plot Breakdown:
Darcy (Patel) and his wife Daphne (Rosy McEwen) have left London for the Welsh countryside. She’s a musician. He’s a sound engineer. They’re looking for peace and creative space. Instead, they find something they weren’t supposed to hear.
Darcy records a strange sound in the woods. Soon after, a child (Jade Croot) appears at their doorstep. The child says he lives nearby. He asks to come in. The couple allows it.
From there, things slowly fall apart. The child stays. The couple’s relationship fractures. Their sense of time, memory, and place begins to slip. The sounds they recorded may not be just sound.
Director’s Statement:
“It’s a quiet miracle that this film exists,” says Chainey. “It took a very particular group of people to make this, and I’m thankful Magnolia is helping it reach more eyes.”

Why It Matters:
Rabbit Trap doesn’t rely on jump scares. It’s built around tension, silence, and the discomfort of not knowing what you’ve let into your home. It’s not loud. It’s not fast. It’s just hard to forget.

When a musician and her husband move to a remote house in Wales, the music they make disturbs local ancient folk magic, bringing a nameless child to their door who is intent on infiltrating their lives.
