Emile Hirsch Joins Anthony Michael Hall, Claire Forlani and Stephen Lang in Sci-Fi Thriller Final Invasion
A mysterious crash in the New Mexico desert could spell the end of humanity in Final Invasion, an upcoming sci-fi action thriller that continues to build out its cast ahead of production later this year.
Per Deadline, Emile Hirsch has joined the project alongside previously announced stars Anthony Michael Hall, Claire Forlani and Stephen Lang. The film is preparing to head to the Toronto International Film Festival market, where Convoke Media will introduce the project to buyers and strategic partners.
Directed by Josh Sternfeld, Final Invasion begins when a mysterious UAP satellite crashes in the New Mexico desert and unleashes a rapidly mutating extraterrestrial organism. The infection quickly spreads across humans, animals and the surrounding ecosystem, creating an extinction-level threat capable of consuming the planet.
With the outbreak escalating, four people find themselves at the center of humanity’s fight for survival. Hall plays a decorated Navy SEAL commander, Lang portrays a famed rear admiral, Hirsch steps in as a determined small-town police officer, and Forlani plays a CDC physician attempting to understand the rapidly evolving threat.
Stopping the organism will not be their only problem. The group must also contend with military secrecy and political interference as the situation grows increasingly difficult to contain.
The setup gives Final Invasion an interesting combination of alien-invasion science fiction, outbreak horror and military action. Rather than centering entirely on a conventional extraterrestrial attack, the film’s threat comes from an organism capable of infecting multiple forms of life and altering the environment around it.
Sternfeld previously directed Fortress: Sniper’s Eye. The screenplay comes from Patricia A. Beninati, with Michael K. Anderson and Jeff Knight.
Beninati is also producing through Centerboro Productions alongside Todd Slater of Convoke Media, Marilyn G. Haft, Ram Paul Silbey and Kyle Behling. Hall will additionally serve as an executive producer.
The project reunites Hall and Slater following their work together on Roswell Delirium, while Slater previously worked with Lang on The Optimist.
“We’re building Final Invasion around extraordinary actors who bring authenticity, emotional depth, and global appeal,” Beninati said in announcing the expanding cast.
She added that Hirsch, Hall, Forlani and Lang each bring something different to the material, while Sternfeld’s filmmaking approach is intended to give the project a grounded feel despite its large-scale science-fiction premise.
Production on Final Invasion is scheduled to begin in New Mexico later this year, with additional casting announcements expected in the coming weeks.
Convoke Media will bring the project to buyers during the Toronto International Film Festival market. No release date has been announced.
