Fantastic Fest partners with Independence Brewing on limited-run IPA

Through a long-forbidden rite of dark alchemy (aka craft brewing), Fantastic Fest Film Festival and Independence Brewing Co. have managed to summon Occult Classic IPA to the mortal plane. This limited-run brew will be available for discerning hopheads to enjoy at select Alamo Drafthouse Cinemas throughout Texas and during Fantastic Fest, the largest genre film festival in the country, from September 18th until all 60 barrels have been drained. Supplies are extremely limited, so craft beer enthusiasts hoping to get a taste of it are encouraged to grab a pint as soon as they can.

“While our first priority is showing the very best genre films from around the world, drinking some exceptional beer is definitely a close second,” says Fantastic Fest Festival Director Lisa Dreyer. “Fantastic Fest was born right here in Austin, so getting to partner with an Austin institution like Independence Brewing is like a dream come true.”

Like the first ray of sunshine breaking through a night of horrors, the Occult Classic IPA pours bright gold with tropical and citrus hop aromas. Brewed with Mosaic and Centennial hop extracts, and dry-hopped with Mosaic, Centennial, Citra, and Simcoe hops, the flavor is bright with tropical and citrus flavors balanced by a low resin. While it’s been brewed with Fantastic Fest in mind, Occult Classic IPA will also be available both in-theater and at the bar at Alamo Drafthouse locations in Austin, San Antonio, Corpus Christi, Laredo, the Dallas/Fort Worth metro, and Houston.

“We’re so excited to give our guests the opportunity to try this super rare beer from a brewery that really means a lot to our community,” says Alamo Drafthouse Vice President of Culinary & Sales Kristen Wheaton. “Drafthouse is in our name for a reason, and getting to offer amazing products like this is a big part of why we do what we do.”

While Alamo Drafthouse guests can get a small taste of Fantastic Fest madness by trying Occult Classic IPA, badges are no longer on sale for this year’s festival. In just a few short days the film fest with all the boring parts cut out will once again bring eight days of world premiere films, wild parties, and unforgettable events to Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar. Notable premieres include Legendary Pictures’ THE TOXIC AVENGER and Prime Video and Blumhouse’s TOTALLY KILLER. More information about the 2023 lineup can be found at
