Fiona Dourif has joined the cast of A Head Full of Ghosts, the upcoming adaptation of Paul Tremblay’s acclaimed 2015 novel, according to Variety.
Dourif joins an ensemble that already includes David Harbour, Rebecca Hall, Esmé Creed-Miles, Bodhi Rae Breathnach and Hollie Hill-Pearson. The film is being written and directed by Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala, the duo behind Goodnight Mommy and The Lodge.
Production is backed by Robert Downey Jr. and Susan Downey, signaling a continued push into elevated, psychologically driven horror.
The source material centers on a family dealing with a possible case of demonic possession, though Tremblay’s novel deliberately blurs the line between supernatural horror, psychological breakdown and media exploitation. That ambiguity is a key reason the book has remained a standout within modern horror literature—and why the choice of Franz and Fiala is significant.
Rather than leaning into spectacle, the filmmakers have built their reputation on suffocating atmosphere, fractured family dynamics and emotional instability. Their involvement suggests a version of A Head Full of Ghosts that prioritizes dread and perspective over traditional exorcism tropes.
Dourif’s addition further strengthens the project’s genre credibility. Known for her work across horror and thriller spaces, she brings a familiarity with the tone and intensity required for material that sits between grounded trauma and supernatural suggestion. Her casting also reflects a broader trend of projects blending recognizable genre talent with prestige-driven ensembles.
With each new addition, A Head Full of Ghosts is shaping into one of the more compelling horror adaptations currently in development. While no release date has been announced, the combination of source material, filmmakers and cast positions the film as a potential standout in the next wave of elevated horror.
