First Images From ‘The Narrow House’ Preview a Claustrophobic Paraguayan Gothic Horror
The first images from The Narrow House have been revealed, offering an early look at the upcoming Paraguayan gothic horror thriller currently in post-production.
Shot in Asunción, the film is directed by Armando Aquino and Hernán Moyano and follows a young woman who enters an aging mansion hoping to escape one difficult situation only to find herself confronting another increasingly disturbing reality.
The newly released images emphasize the production’s gothic setting and claustrophobic approach, with much of the film’s horror built around enclosed spaces and an Asunción mansion that gradually becomes more than a backdrop for the story.
Lizzie Gómez leads the film as Salma, a young woman trapped in a toxic relationship who accepts a job caring for a dying elderly man. The position takes her inside an old mansion, seemingly offering an opportunity to distance herself from her own trauma.
Instead, Salma begins encountering secrets, unexplained presences and supernatural phenomena within the house, gradually making it more difficult for her to distinguish between psychological deterioration and an external threat.
Rather than building the film primarily around jump scares, the filmmakers describe The Narrow House as a slow-burning horror story designed to increase its sense of unease through the characters, silence and physical environment.
Moyano wrote the screenplay, which incorporates elements of supernatural horror and body horror within its domestic setting. The production cites films including Hereditary, The Others and Drag Me to Hell among its genre reference points.
Aquino also serves as cinematographer, with the film’s visual approach emphasizing confinement, darkness and spaces that appear to become increasingly distorted as Salma’s experience inside the mansion intensifies.
Aquino’s previous directing credits include Ore Ru, Leal 2 and Renacer Albirrojo. Moyano’s work includes The Red Book Ritual: Gates of Hell, Sudor frío and Belisario, el pequeño gran héroe del cosmos.
Joining Gómez in the cast are Diro Romero and Natalia Cálcena, both of Narciso, alongside Matías Miranda, Lia Love, Alejandra Cabral Valinotti and Alberto Jara.
Music will also play a role in establishing the film’s Paraguayan identity. The soundtrack includes the original song “Sueño de tus ojos” from Paraguayan rock duo IODI as well as “Crucigrama” from pop singer and cast member Lia Love.
Post-production is currently underway with professionals working across Paraguay and Argentina.
The producers plan to begin submitting The Narrow House to international film festivals toward the end of 2026, followed by a theatrical release across the region. Specific festival selections and theatrical dates have not yet been announced.
Gaspar Zaldívar and Bruno Zuccolillo serve as executive producers. Janus Media S.A. and Zuma Productions are co-producers, with Chaco Films, Cut to the Chase and Black Mandala Films serving as associate producers.
Beyond its supernatural story, The Narrow House arrives as another project emerging from a developing Paraguayan genre filmmaking scene. By placing its story inside an Asunción mansion and incorporating local actors, filmmakers and music, the production is positioning its Paraguayan identity as an integral part of the film rather than simply a location for a familiar gothic horror formula.
With its first images now released, The Narrow House is expected to begin its international festival push later this year.
