‘Karma’ Teaser Unveils Psychological Thriller Reuniting Marion Cotillard and Guillaume Canet at Cannes

A first teaser has been released for Karma, the new psychological thriller from Guillaume Canet starring Marion Cotillard.

The project premiered as a Special Screening at the Cannes Film Festival and marks the sixth collaboration between Cotillard and Canet following films including Little White Lies, Blood Ties, Rock’n Roll, Little White Lies 2, and Asterix & Obelix: The Middle Kingdom.

According to details first reported by Deadline, Cotillard plays a woman attempting to move forward from a troubled past whose life begins unraveling following the disappearance of a child.

In comments shared ahead of the premiere, Cotillard revealed that Canet specifically wrote the role for her during a period when she was beginning to take on larger acting projects again after focusing on family life. The actress described the character as someone whose hidden emotional strength gradually emerges as the story progresses.

The teaser itself leans heavily into atmosphere and psychological unease. Rich color palettes, emotionally charged close-ups, fragmented imagery, and lingering dread dominate the footage while keeping much of the central mystery concealed. The visual style immediately suggests a slow-burning thriller focused on emotional instability, buried trauma, and unraveling identity.

For audiences drawn to psychological suspense and emotionally driven mysteries, Karma appears positioned within the kind of prestige European thriller space that Cannes audiences often gravitate toward. The footage also highlights the chemistry between Cotillard and Canet, whose collaborations have frequently balanced emotional intimacy with tension and instability.

The film is produced by Iconoclast alongside Canet’s Caneo France, with Pathé handling French distribution and international sales.

Early reactions surrounding the teaser have already centered on the film’s visual presentation, moody tone, and the increasingly unsettling atmosphere hinted at throughout the footage.

Karma premiered tonight at Cannes as part of the festival’s Special Screenings lineup.
