Thread, Crime, and Consequence Collide in Freddy Macdonald’s Twisted Thriller Sew Torn
Get ready for one of the most peculiar and tension-spun thrillers of the year—Sew Torn, the needle-sharp feature debut from Freddy Macdonald, is stitching its way to U.S. theaters on May 9 following acclaimed runs at SXSW and Sitges.
Eve Connolly stars as Barbara Duggen, better known as “The Mobile Seamstress,” a struggling shop owner trying to keep her small-town business afloat. After a routine sewing appointment goes south and a client’s button goes missing, Barbara stumbles upon a grisly scene—a drug deal gone wrong. Two unconscious motorcyclists, scattered guns, and an unclaimed briefcase leave her at a fork in the road.
From here, the film spins into a triple-threaded narrative, showing the ripple effects of three drastically different choices. In one version, Barbara commits the perfect crime. In another, she does the right thing and calls the cops. In the third, she simply walks away. Each path plunges her deeper into the chaos, with the consequences unraveling her life in increasingly dangerous and bizarre ways.
As Barbara is pulled closer to the briefcase’s violent owner, she relies on the only thing she knows—thread. In a surprising twist of creativity, Barbara uses her skills as a seamstress to fight back, survive, and protect her livelihood.

Sew Torn also stars Calum Worthy, John Lynch, K Callan, Ron Cook, Thomas Douglas, Caroline Goodall, and Werner Biermeier. It’s a clever, genre-bending thriller filled with dark humor, inventive tension, and a surprisingly heartfelt core.
Produced by Vertigo Releasing and Sunrise Films, the movie will hit select U.S. theaters on May 9. A strange and stylish ride, Sew Torn is a thriller threaded with originality.
