GAZER (Metrograph Pictures) - North American Premiere at Fantastic Fest 2024
At Horror Movies Uncut (HMU), we aim to provide our readers with an exclusive look at the films we are covering at this year's Fantastic Fest. While our goal is to see as much as possible, several can't-miss titles are already trending following their world premieres at other prestigious festivals. One of these standout films is "Gazer," the debut feature from Ryan J. Sloan, brought to us by Metrograph Pictures.
Described as a heist thriller, "Gazer" was a favorite at Cannes, earning praise from outlets like Indiewire. The film pays homage to 1970s crime thrillers—a genre HMU readers have become more familiar with through our recent editorials on crime films from Italy and Japan during that era.
"Gazer" follows Frankie, a young single mother struggling with a deteriorating mental condition called dyschronometria. Determined to save money for her daughter, Frankie finds it challenging to maintain a steady job due to her condition. She eventually teams up with another woman for a heist, only to find herself caught in a web of revenge, deceit, and murder.
"Gazer" will have its North American premiere at this year's Fantastic Fest, with filmmaker Ryan J. Sloan and lead actress Ariella Mastroianni in attendance. Stay tuned for more updates on "Gazer" as the festival approaches!
