‘Godmother’ Mini Teasers Put Dee Wallace and Bruce Davison at the Center of a Fantastic Fest Nightmare
There is clearly something going on with older people in horror right now.
Genre filmmakers have increasingly turned seemingly harmless parents, grandparents, neighbors and retirees into sources of chaos, violence and outright insanity. Fantastic Fest 2026 will add another entry to that growing trend with Godmother, a new horror film bringing genre veterans Dee Wallace and Bruce Davison together for what appears to be a particularly uncomfortable weekend in the High Desert.
The first mini teasers for Godmother have arrived ahead of the film’s world premiere at Fantastic Fest on Sept. 18, offering brief glimpses at the sinister circumstances surrounding its central couple.
Written and directed by John Veron, from a screenplay co-written with Alanah Pearce, Godmother stars Paige Evans and Cameron Cuffe as Theo and Colby, a couple who travel to the High Desert expecting a romantic getaway.
Their plans change after encountering two apparently friendly retirees. What initially appears harmless soon reveals something considerably darker, with the older couple harboring sinister intentions specifically involving Theo.
That simple setup becomes considerably more interesting with Wallace and Davison occupying the other side of the encounter.
Wallace remains one of horror’s most recognizable performers through films including The Howling, Cujo and Critters, while Davison’s genre résumé stretches from Willard through decades of horror, science fiction and fantasy work. Putting the two veterans together as characters whose friendliness may be concealing something much worse gives Godmother an immediate hook.
The cast also includes Riley Dandy.
The newly released footage does not appear interested in giving away much. Instead, the mini teasers establish the uncomfortable atmosphere surrounding the characters and provide an early taste of the escalating situation waiting for Theo and Colby.
That restraint may work in the film’s favor. A story involving an isolated romantic getaway, two strangers and uncertain motives does not require much explanation before the questions become part of the appeal.
Godmother is produced by Pearce and Seán McLoughlin, better known online as Jacksepticeye. The project also marks another genre feature entering Fantastic Fest without audiences knowing precisely how far its premise intends to go, making it one of the movies on HMU’s radar heading into Austin.
The teasers were unveiled through Bloody Disgusting and provide the first opportunity to see what Veron and company have constructed before the film reaches its first audience.
And while Godmother certainly is not the first recent genre movie to suggest that trusting the nice older couple may be a terrible idea, Wallace and Davison are more than enough reason to see what this particular pair has planned.
Godmother makes its world premiere Friday, Sept. 18 at 8:30 p.m. at Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar as part of Fantastic Fest 2026.
