SXSW breakout The Surrender is gearing up for its streaming debut on Shudder next month. The supernatural thriller marks the feature debut of filmmaker Julia Max and is poised to be one of the genre’s most talked-about releases in the second half of the year.

Starring Colby Minifie and Kate Burton, the film explores the strained relationship between a grieving mother and her daughter after the death of the family patriarch. In a desperate attempt to cope, the mother hires a mysterious stranger to bring her husband back from the dead—only for the night to spiral into a brutal, otherworldly fight for survival.
