Lena wakes up in a moving camper with a hole in her side and no memory of how it got there. The man driving tells her she has one hour to get to a doctor—or something unimaginably awful will happen to her. From that first breathless moment, Hellcat never lets up.
As time ticks down and her body starts to rebel, Lena’s perception of reality unravels. Is the driver telling the truth? Is the infection even real? And what, exactly, is she turning into? This is body horror fused with psychological collapse, and Bodell directs it with a feverish sense of urgency—like Cronenberg by way of It Follows, but sweatier, sharper, and stripped-down to its emotional bones.
Gorman’s performance is the engine that makes Hellcat run red. She’s unflinching, raw, and terrifying to watch in all the right ways. Whether she’s in pain, panicked, or predator-like, Gorman makes Lena a woman you root for even as she transforms into something she no longer recognizes.
Fantasia is no stranger to claustrophobic screamers, but Hellcat brings a very specific kind of dread—the horror of not knowing whether the monster is in the mirror or in the driver’s seat. And by the end, you might be questioning your own reflection too.
