Homeownership has never been this hellish.
Premiering in two weeks at Fantasia Fest 2025, Hold the Fort is the wild, blood-splattered, monster-smashing horror-comedy from director William Bagley (The Murder Podcast), and it’s already shaping up to be one of the festival’s most unhinged crowd-pleasers. A gonzo blend of suburban satire and action carnage, the film stars Chris Mayers (Ozark) as one half of a couple whose dream home turns into an all-out war zone.
Lucas and Jenny just landed their first house—but what should’ve been a quiet domestic upgrade turns into a neighborhood nightmare. Not only is the HOA from hell, but the cul-de-sac is also a literal portal to chaos, crawling with monsters, freaks, and unholy HOA enforcers who will do anything to preserve the “rules.”
Cue chainsaws, blood geysers, flamethrowers, and some delightfully outrageous creature effects.
The film leans hard into genre mayhem but never loses its comedic bite. Think Tucker & Dale vs. Evil meets The People Under the Stairs, with some Evil Dead Rise levels of blood-slick madness thrown in. Bagley clearly knows the genre inside and out, and here he takes real-world stress—homeownership, bureaucracy, weird neighbors—and cranks it to eleven.
The teaser trailer that dropped ahead of the fest promises tight, claustrophobic action, hilarious dialogue, and a couple of monsters that feel ripped out of your worst housing market dreams. But it’s the chemistry between Mayers and his co-stars that keeps the chaos grounded—making you root for them as the walls literally cave in.
