Trailer Drops for Bayou Survival Thriller Hungry Ahead of June VOD Release

A new creature feature is entering the summer lineup as Hungry unveils its first trailer and poster, setting the stage for a survival story built around one of nature’s most dangerous animals. The film arrives on VOD June 23.

Written and directed by James Nunn (One Shot trilogy), Hungry centers on a group of thrill-seeking tourists navigating the Louisiana swamplands. What begins as a guided riverboat excursion shifts quickly after they’re led off course in search of a more “exclusive” experience.

The setting becomes the primary threat.

Beneath the surface of the bayou, a ravenous hippopotamus begins to stalk the group, turning the excursion into a contained survival scenario. The film leans into the unpredictability of the environment—tight waterways, limited escape routes, and murky visibility—all contributing to the tension.

The cast includes Madison Davenport, Joaquim de Almeida, Tracey Bonner, and Michel Curiel, with the ensemble positioned within a high-pressure, single-location framework.

The premise aligns with a long-running genre format—isolated group, contained environment, and a singular threat—but shifts the focus away from fictional creatures to a real-world predator known for its aggression and territorial behavior.

Early trailer footage emphasizes pursuit and confinement, with the riverboat functioning as both transport and trap. The film positions itself within the creature-feature lane, combining environmental danger with direct physical threat.

Hungry is set for a digital release on June 23.
