Indian Horror Film ‘Numinous’ Boards Fearfolks for Worldwide Sales Ahead of Cannes Market
Fearfolks has acquired worldwide sales and pre-sale rights for the Hindi-language horror film Numinous ahead of the upcoming Cannes Film Market.
The Bangkok-based distribution and production company will introduce the project to international buyers during the market.
Directed by and starring Jay Alani, Numinous is based on one of Alani’s documented paranormal case files.
Set in Himachal Pradesh, India, the story begins after police discover a burned house containing a charred body seated inside. When the family questions whether the death was accidental, a paranormal investigator is brought in and uncovers events tied to a larger supernatural mystery.
The cast also includes Gaurav K. Sharma, known for Gangs of Wasseypur and Madras Cafe, alongside Mihir Rajda. The screenplay was co-written by Neil D’Silva.
Hans Audric Estialbo, CEO of Fearfolks, said the company is focused on projects with distinct concepts and strong creative teams, adding that the company believes Numinous has potential to connect with audiences in India and internationally.
Jay Alani stated that the film approaches horror through psychological and emotional themes connected to trauma, belief, and recurring patterns of human behavior.
Outside of filmmaking, Alani has built a public profile through paranormal investigations, supernatural folklore research, podcasts, books, and speaking appearances. His published works include Haunted, The Paranormal Boy, and The Haunted Doorway.
Fearfolks has previously distributed titles including Thailand’s Death Whisperer franchise and A24’s Mother Mary. The company is also attached to the Thailand distribution of Backrooms from filmmaker Kane Parsons.
Principal photography on Numinous is scheduled to begin in June, with a March 2027 release currently planned.
