Buffalo 8 is set to release Daniele Campea's psychological drama "Mother Nocturna" (Madre Notturna), a lycanthrope-inspired tale about a wolf biologist who returns to her family after a stay in a mental hospital. The moon's strange powers send her spiraling down a dangerous path. Starring Susanna Costaglione, Sofia Ponente, Edoardo Oliva, Elena Battarin, and more, Mother Nocturna will be available on VOD across all platforms on September 27th.

The story follows Agnese, who, after her hospitalization, reunites with her husband and daughter. As the moon’s occult power disrupts her mind and transforms her body, visions of the “God of the woods” invade her reality. Locked in a house surrounded by dark woods, Agnese must confront the ghosts of her past as nightmares and sinister presences close in.

Buffalo 8 is honored to launch their fall genre slate with Daniele Campea's psychological drama Mother Nocturna (Madre Notturna). Campea's latest feature, inspired by Eurpides' The Bacchae, tracks a mentally fragile doctor as she attempts to reconnect with her family while resisting calls from the moon. Mother Nocturna will debut on North American Cable VOD and Digital HD September 27th, including Prime Video, Apple TV, Google Play, Cox, Charter and Spectrum. The film will also be available the same day on Prime Video and Apple TV in Campea's native Italy and the United Kingdom.

Mother Nocturna was directed by Campea from his own original screenplay. The Italian psychological drama made its world premiere at the XX Ravenna Nightmare Film Fest, where Campea took home the award for Best International Feature Film. Mother Nocturna also won Best Feature Film at the Eerie Horror Fest.

The cast is led by Susanna Costaglione, alongside Sofia Ponente, Edoardo Oliva, Elena Battarin, Riccardo Pellegrini, Vincenzo Mambella, and Sveva Colangelo Palombizio.

Of his second feature being released into the world, Campea shared, "I wanted to portray the descent into madness of a woman condemned to isolation, both the physical and psychological, a lifelong solitude in which the pandemic has the role of a detonator. The camera is mainly static, like a painting, giving the viewer the chance to dive into the scene and feel the slow passing of time, surrounded by the obsessive sound of the wind.

In contrast with the image, I wanted the sound to be very mobile, subliminal, nervous, pervasive, with explosions of music. The main themes of the soundtrack are taken from two masterworks of Italian classical music: "La folia" (The Madness) by Arcangelo Corelli, and "Norma" by Vincenzo Bellini."

Agnese is a wolf biologist who gets back to her husband and daughter after a long hospitalization in a mental institution. The moon has an occult power over Agnese, whose mind begins to disrupt and her body transforms, while the visions of the “God of the woods” intrude on reality. She will deal with the ghosts from the past, locked in a house surrounded by woods, where nightmares take over, and obscure presences become ever more disturbing.
