Jane Levy Asks ‘Evil Dead’ Fans If Mia Should Return: ‘Let’s Call Sam Raimi Right Now’

Jane Levy as Mia Allen in Evil Dead
Jane Levy tested the waters for a potential return as Mia Allen during a recent Q&A screening of 2013’s Evil Dead.

More than a decade after Mia Allen survived one of the bloodiest nights in Evil Dead history, Jane Levy appears interested in finding out whether fans are ready to see her pick up the chainsaw again.

During a recent post-screening Q&A for Fede Álvarez’s 2013 Evil Dead, hosted by Contra Celluloid, Levy directly asked the audience whether Mia should return to the franchise.

“I have a question. Do you guys think Mia should come back to Evil Dead?” Levy asked, receiving applause from the audience. “OK cool, I was just checking. That’s all.”

She then pushed the joke a little further.

“Let’s call Sam’s Skype number right now and see if he wants Mia to come back,” Levy said, referring to franchise creator Sam Raimi.

The comments don’t amount to confirmation that Levy is returning, but they add another layer to recent speculation surrounding Mia’s future in the franchise. Levy has not appeared in an Evil Dead film since Álvarez’s 2013 installment, where Mia emerged as the film’s final survivor after enduring possession, dismemberment and a climactic confrontation with the Deadites.

Álvarez’s film arrived more than 30 years after Raimi, Bruce Campbell and producer Robert Tapert launched the series with 1981’s The Evil Dead. Raimi followed it with Evil Dead II in 1987 and Army of Darkness in 1993, while Campbell eventually returned as Ash Williams for the Starz series Ash vs Evil Dead.

The theatrical franchise subsequently moved away from both Ash and Mia. Lee Cronin’s Evil Dead Rise arrived in 2023 with a new group of characters and moved the carnage into an urban apartment building, continuing an approach that allows filmmakers to tell largely self-contained stories within the wider mythology.

That expansion has continued with Sébastien Vaniček’s Evil Dead Burn, while Francis Galluppi is set to take the franchise back in time with Evil Dead Wrath. Scheduled for April 7, 2028, Wrath is set in 1972 as a prequel to the original film. Tapert has described the project as another departure for the series.

Whether any of those plans leave room for Mia remains unknown. Levy’s comments were framed as a question to fans rather than an announcement, and there has been no confirmation that she is attached to Wrath or another upcoming Evil Dead project.

Still, bringing Mia back would arrive at an interesting moment for both the franchise and the wider horror market.

The 2013 Evil Dead isn’t particularly old in the minds of modern horror audiences, and Mia has maintained a following despite appearing in only one installment. Levy has also continued working across film and television since the reboot, including her recent role in River.

With horror continuing to maintain a significant presence at the theatrical box office, revisiting a popular surviving character from an established franchise would hardly be an unexpected move. More importantly, Mia’s survival left the door open creatively. Unlike a resurrection or reboot, another appearance could simply continue a story the franchise never followed.

There is also precedent for Evil Dead allowing characters and filmmakers to move in and out of its mythology without requiring every installment to function as a direct sequel. That flexibility has become one of the franchise’s strengths as it has expanded beyond Raimi and Campbell’s original trilogy.

For now, Levy appears to be testing the temperature of the room.

Based on the reaction she received, Evil Dead fans haven’t forgotten Mia Allen.
