On Friday, November 22, 2024, AMC Mission Valley hosted the hometown premiere of Y2K, a dial-up-era disaster comedy directed and co-written by Kyle Mooney. Co-writer and producer Evan Winter joined Mooney to mark the occasion, along with special guest and San Diego native, Tony Hawk.
The event celebrated the local roots of the filmmaking team while offering attendees an exclusive first look at the film. The premiere highlighted the city’s connection to the creative talent involved in the project.
Following the screening, the celebration continued at Kairoa Brewing Company with the Y2K x Yahoo After-Party. The venue featured a rooftop gathering with era-appropriate themes, fostering an immersive experience aligned with the film’s nostalgic setting.
About Y2K
Y2K is set on New Year’s Eve 1999 and follows two high school juniors whose plans to crash a party lead to unforeseen chaos. The ensemble cast includes Jaeden Martell, Rachel Zegler, Julian Dennison, The Kid Laroi, Fred Durst, Lachlan Watson, Mason Gooding, Daniel Zolghadri, and Eduardo Franco. The film combines humor and suspense, reflecting the cultural anxieties surrounding the turn of the millennium.
The film will be released exclusively in U.S. theaters by A24 on December 6, 2024.
