GKIDS Brings Labyrinth to Theaters for Two-Night Event May 10–11
Anime and sci-fi fans will have a limited window to catch Labyrinth on the big screen as GKIDS announces a special two-night theatrical event set for May 10–11.
Directed by Shoji Kawamori, Labyrinth marks the legendary creator’s first original feature film, blending sci-fi concepts with contemporary themes surrounding identity and online culture.
The story follows Shiori, a high school student struggling to gain attention online. After an embarrassing video of her goes viral, her life takes a surreal turn when she becomes trapped inside her smartphone, replaced in the real world by a more confident and charismatic digital version of herself. As this alter ego gains influence and begins executing a far more dangerous plan, Shiori must navigate a chaotic digital landscape alongside other outcasts to reclaim her identity.
The film incorporates Kawamori’s signature approach—fusing music, technology, and speculative storytelling—while exploring the psychological and social pressures tied to internet culture. Voice work includes Suzuka, adding another layer of pop influence to the project.
With its premise centered on viral fame, identity fragmentation, and digital dependency, Labyrinth positions itself as both a high-concept sci-fi adventure and a commentary on modern social media dynamics.
GKIDS continues to expand its slate of anime and international titles, with upcoming releases including Godzilla Minus Zero follow-up projects and new entries from established creators across the genre space.
Labyrinth will screen in theaters nationwide for two nights only, May 10 and 11.
