Dances With Films 2026: Jury Prize Winner Littermates Brings Mystery and Dystopian Tension to Los Angeles

One of the most intriguing titles headed to this year's Dances With Films: LA is Littermates, the Special Jury Prize winner from the 2026 Manchester Film Festival.

Directed by Scott Tinkham and Michael Woloson and written by Tinkham, the film will make its North American Premiere on June 21 at 8:30 p.m. at the TCL Chinese 6 Theatres as part of the festival's feature lineup.

Starring Joey Bader, Kaylee McGregor, and Oliver Woolf, Littermates drops audiences into a world shaped by uncertainty, isolation, and unanswered questions.

Set against the backdrop of a mysterious war, the story follows Liam and Mel, two survivors who arrive at a secluded cottage in the English countryside after a violent attack. Bloodied, disoriented, and unable to fully comprehend what has happened to them, the pair are taken in by Chester, an enigmatic caretaker who provides food, shelter, and structure while helping them relearn basic life skills.

Inside the cottage, life follows a carefully controlled routine. Good behavior is rewarded with "nifties," a form of currency that can be exchanged for small comforts ranging from favorite meals to karaoke sessions, dance parties, and time in the hot tub. While Liam begins to accept the boundaries of this unusual existence, Mel becomes increasingly suspicious of the rules surrounding the property and the dangers Chester claims exist beyond the locked gate.

As tensions rise and curiosity grows, the fragile balance within the cottage begins to unravel.

The film's trailer hints at a contained mystery with strong psychological undertones, blending dystopian world-building with dark humor and escalating suspense. Genre fans may find themselves drawing comparisons to films like 10 Cloverfield Lane, thanks to its isolated setting, uncertain reality, and growing questions about who can be trusted.

Anchored by three central performances, Littermates combines mystery, tension, and absurdist touches to create a story that appears focused on survival, perception, and the search for truth in an increasingly controlled environment.

The film arrives at Dances With Films carrying significant momentum after earning the Special Jury Prize at Manchester Film Festival earlier this year.

Littermates is produced by Oliver Woolf, Michael Woloson, Scott Tinkham, and Kaylee McGregor, with executive producers Noah Stratton-Twine, Jake Kuhn, Alexander Baker, and Joey Bader. Cinematography and editing are handled by Michael Woloson, with music composed by Noa Margalit.

The film is a production of That's The Fish and will screen as part of Dances With Films: LA 2026 on June 21.

This dystopian psychological tale of suspicion and confinement looks utterly gripping, and I’ll be checking out more insights about it over at kablora.
