MADS MIKKELSEN RETURNS TO GENRE FILM IN FULLER’S DUST BUNNY
Sigourney Weaver, David Dastmalchian, and newcomer Sophie Sloan join hitman fantasy tale
Bryan Fuller, best known for his work on Hannibal and Pushing Daisies, makes his feature directorial debut with DUST BUNNY, a dark fantasy thriller starring Mads Mikkelsen and Sophie Sloan. The official trailer was released today, offering a glimpse into the film’s strange and violent fairytale world.
The story follows Aurora (Sophie Sloan), a ten-year-old girl who believes a monster under her bed has eaten her family. Instead of turning to the police or a parent, she turns to her quiet neighbor, who turns out to be a professional killer. Played by Mikkelsen, the neighbor takes the job—partly out of guilt, suspecting her family may have been collateral damage in a botched hit. As the pair dig deeper, their story unravels into a layered fight involving both metaphorical and real-world monsters.
Sigourney Weaver co-stars, alongside David Dastmalchian in an undisclosed role. The film is produced by Fuller, Basil Iwanyk, and Erica Lee.
While the trailer presents a surreal mix of childhood trauma, contract killing, and creature horror, it’s clear this is a project that sits comfortably in Fuller’s established wheelhouse. The visual style feels in step with Hannibal, while the themes draw closer to Let the Right One In or The Professional, where childhood innocence clashes with adult violence.
No release date has been confirmed, but with Mikkelsen in the lead and Fuller behind the camera, expect DUST BUNNY to show up on festival lineups or early awards season radars later this year.
