Peter Hall and Paul Gandersman’s debut brings analog horror and modern YouTube dread together in one chilling descent into madness.
For those of you who recently sat through a “found footage” or faux-documentary film and felt underwhelmed — maybe wishing it leaned harder into that true analog horror experience — your wait might be over.
One of the breakout discoveries from Tribeca 2025, and later Beyond Fest, is finally headed our way. The debut feature from Peter Hall and Paul Gandersman, Man Finds Tape, has officially dropped its first trailer and poster courtesy of Magnet (formerly Magnet Releasing). The film hits select theaters and digital on December 5th, and if early festival buzz is any indication, this one’s about to crawl under your skin.
“The Truth Is on Tape.”
Man Finds Tape follows Lucas Page (William Magnuson), creator of a viral YouTube channel specializing in eerie home video discoveries. When Lucas sends his sister Lynn (Kelsey Pribilski) surveillance footage of a murder in their Texas hometown, the two uncover something far darker than they imagined — a decades-old supernatural phenomenon tied to a monstrous legend stalking the town of Larkin.
As the siblings dig deeper into the footage, the digital distortions and sinister clues begin to implicate their own family — and when a stranger (Brian Villalobos) arrives with destructive intentions, Lynn must confront the horrifying truth behind their lineage and the entity lurking within the recordings.
An Analog Descent into Madness
Described by critics as “creepypasta meets cosmic horror,” the film plays like a haunted transmission from the YouTube age — unsettling, obsessive, and dangerously self-aware. Its fractured visuals and VHS grime echo the lo-fi terror of Hi8 and The Blair Witch Project, while its internet-age paranoia channels the same kind of digital folklore that made Marble Hornets and The Mandela Catalogue cult phenomena.
Magnet’s return to the analog-horror landscape feels intentional, positioning Man Finds Tape as a modern bridge between old-school horror texture and new-school virality.
“The trailer alone feels like falling into an algorithmic nightmare,” one critic said following its Beyond Fest screening. “It’s hypnotic, sinister, and deeply Texas weird.”
