NECA Takes Pennywise Back to 1935 With ‘IT: Welcome to Derry’ Black-and-White Figure
Pennywise is heading back to 1935 as NECA expands its horror collectibles lineup with a new figure inspired by HBO’s IT: Welcome to Derry.
The company has revealed the Welcome to Derry Ultimate Black and White Pennywise 7-Inch Scale Action Figure, recreating the character’s appearance during the Juniper Hill Asylum flashback sequence from Episode 6.
Priced at $39.99, the Ultimate figure adopts a largely grayscale design intended to capture the sequence’s period aesthetic while retaining one particularly recognizable piece of color: Pennywise’s blood-red balloon.
The figure also gives the creature sinister yellow eyes featuring a light-piping effect designed to make them appear to glow. The visual contrast allows Pennywise’s eyes and balloon to break through the otherwise black-and-white presentation.
NECA’s latest release continues the company’s extensive history with Stephen King’s shape-shifting horror icon while shifting its attention from the recent IT movies to the mythology explored in Welcome to Derry.
The seven-inch-scale figure includes interchangeable heads and hands, allowing collectors to change Pennywise’s appearance and pose. The red balloon is included as an accessory.
NECA is packaging the figure in a collector-friendly window box with an opening front flap, maintaining the presentation associated with the company’s Ultimate line.
The specific inspiration also makes the release more than another variation on Pennywise’s familiar design. By recreating the 1935 Juniper Hill Asylum sequence, the figure pulls directly from Welcome to Derry’s exploration of earlier chapters in the entity’s history.
The HBO series expands the world established by Stephen King’s IT, moving backward through Derry’s violent past and the recurring evil connected to the town. That approach gives collectible manufacturers considerably more territory to explore beyond Pennywise’s most familiar modern appearances.
For NECA, which has previously produced numerous Pennywise figures and accessories, the black-and-white treatment offers a visually distinct addition to an already substantial collection of merchandise based on King’s creation.
The grayscale finish, yellow light-piping eyes and bright red balloon should also make this version immediately distinguishable on the shelf from the company’s previous Pennywise releases.
The IT: Welcome to Derry Ultimate Black and White Pennywise 7-Inch Scale Action Figure carries item number NC45443 and is priced at $39.99.
