New ‘IS GOD IS’ Clip Spotlights Janelle Monáe Ahead of Theatrical Release This Friday
A new official clip and event photos have been released for IS GOD IS, the upcoming revenge-driven thriller written and directed by Aleshea Harris.
Based on Harris’ award-winning stage play of the same name, the film stars Kara Young and Mallori Johnson alongside Janelle Monáe, Erika Alexander, and Vivica A. Fox.
The newly released footage features Monáe’s character Angie and further previews the film’s revenge-centered narrative as two sisters pursue a violent mission connected to their past.
The release campaign also included special screening events in both New York and Los Angeles ahead of the film’s theatrical debut this Friday.
In Harlem, an advanced screening was held at the AMC Magic Johnson Harlem 9 followed by a reception at Angel of Harlem. The event was co-hosted by Kalen Allen, Qween Jean, and Bevy Smith, with Kara Young and Mallori Johnson attending the screening.
Additional release week events took place in Los Angeles at Vidiots, the nonprofit video store and cinema space known for supporting repertory screenings and film culture programming. The Los Angeles event included a post-screening Q&A featuring Aleshea Harris, Vivica A. Fox, and Erika Alexander.
The film’s marketing continues emphasizing the project’s blend of revenge thriller storytelling, stylized dialogue, theatrical origins, and emotionally charged character dynamics.
With its stage play roots and ensemble cast, IS GOD IS arrives as another genre-adjacent theatrical release leaning heavily into themes of trauma, vengeance, sisterhood, and identity while blending dramatic tension with violent confrontation.
