NEW TRAILER FOR THE RUNNING MAN PUTS GLEN POWELL ON THE RUN IN EDGAR WRIGHT’S ADAPTATION

The game is back on.

Paramount Pictures has released a new trailer for Edgar Wright’s highly anticipated reimagining of The Running Man, giving fans an extended look at Glen Powell as Ben Richards—a working-class man forced into the world’s most lethal reality show. Based more faithfully on Stephen King’s original 1982 novel (written under his Richard Bachman pseudonym), this new adaptation trades the camp of the 1987 Schwarzenegger film for something far grittier, darker, and more human.

In a dystopian near-future, The Running Man is the most-watched television event on Earth. Contestants known as “Runners” must survive 30 days while being hunted by professional assassins, all broadcast live to a society addicted to violence and spectacle. When Richards (Powell) volunteers for the show to save his sick daughter, his courage and cunning quickly turn him into a threat—not just to his pursuers, but to the entire system that feeds off bloodshed.

The trailer amps up the tension with glimpses of Powell navigating collapsing cityscapes, drone warfare, and mass hysteria as the world roots for—or against—his survival. Josh Brolin stars as Dan Killian, the show’s slick and ruthless producer, who views Richards not as a man but as a ratings machine.

From what we’ve seen so far, Wright and Powell are honoring the tone of King’s source material while crafting a film that feels strikingly relevant in today’s reality-TV-obsessed culture. Early footage shown at New York Comic Con teased a kinetic mix of satire and survival, with Powell and Wright discussing how the film leans into the novel’s political edge—turning entertainment itself into a weapon of control.

If the new trailer is any indication, The Running Man looks set to be a relentless, visually explosive thriller that challenges as much as it entertains. Powell continues his streak of redefining leading-man energy, and under Wright’s stylish yet subversive direction, this might just be one of the most talked-about adaptations of the year.
