As SXSW approaches, buzz is building around several films set to premiere at the festival before making their way to theaters. One of the most intriguing is The Surfer, a mind-bending psychological thriller directed by Lorcan Finnegan and written by Thomas Martin. Starring Nicolas Cage, the film follows a father who revisits his childhood surfing spot with his son, only to encounter a cult-like group of territorial locals determined to keep them off the waves.
What begins as a simple day at the beach spirals into an escalating psychological battle, as the oppressive summer heat fuels rising tensions. With Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions set to release The Surfer in theaters on May 2nd, this promises to be a visceral descent into paranoia and power struggles.
