‘Operation Kabul’ Trailer Takes on a Dangerous 2021 Afghanistan Rescue Mission
Well Go USA Entertainment has released an all-new trailer for Operation Kabul, an action-driven war thriller inspired by events surrounding a 2021 military rescue mission during the withdrawal from Afghanistan.
Directed by Zsombor Dyga, Operation Kabul will arrive on Digital Nov. 3, following an elite military unit tasked with helping evacuate civilians as Kabul descends into chaos.
Inspired by the 2021 rescue mission known as Operation Shaman Shield, the film places its characters amid the rapidly deteriorating situation surrounding the withdrawal from Afghanistan, with hundreds of civilians attempting to escape the city.
While the evacuation operation unfolds at the airport, the mission becomes considerably more dangerous when a rifleman commander leads his unit back into Kabul to rescue a doctor who has been captured by the Taliban.
Moving beyond the relative security of the airport, the soldiers undertake a nighttime rescue operation through the city, turning an already volatile evacuation into a fight for survival.
The new trailer emphasizes the scale and urgency of the situation, moving between crowded evacuation points, military operations and the unit’s journey into Kabul. Gunfire, explosions and close-quarters confrontations increasingly take over as the soldiers move deeper into hostile territory.
The premise draws its inspiration from Operation Shaman Shield, a Hungarian military evacuation conducted amid the collapse of the Afghan government and the Taliban’s return to power in August 2021. The operation was launched as countries rushed to evacuate citizens and Afghan personnel during the final stages of the international military presence in Afghanistan.
Rather than approaching those events as a broad historical account, Operation Kabul uses the evacuation as the foundation for a concentrated military thriller, placing its central unit on a specific rescue mission while the larger crisis unfolds around them.
Dyga directs the film following previous work that includes Couch Surf, shifting here toward large-scale military action and a story grounded in a recent real-world conflict.
The ensemble includes Gábor Jászberényi, Blanka Mészáros, Tamás Borovics, Nóra Trokán, Adrián Samudovszky, Gusztáv Dietz, Dávid Hajmási, Zsombor Ertl, Márton Máthé, Szilveszter Pálinkás and Klarissza Lakatos.
Harry Szovik, Read Ben Salah, Marco Lascari, Loai Shaker, József Tálos and András Stohl round out the cast.
With its real-world inspiration serving as the backdrop, Operation Kabul looks to combine the urgency of an evacuation thriller with a more traditional behind-enemy-lines rescue mission as its soldiers move away from their extraction point and into an increasingly dangerous city.
Operation Kabul arrives on Digital Nov. 3 from Well Go USA Entertainment.
