Brooklyn-based underground icon Pictureplane just blessed the blacklight-lit altar of post-industrial goth pop with his latest single, “Heaven is a State of Mind,” and trust us—this one rips. Synth-heavy, mood-drenched, and unapologetically cinematic, the track channels neon-tinted Depeche Mode energy with a cyberpunk twist, dragging you straight onto the shadowy dancefloor of a rave that never ends.
Described by Pictureplane (aka Travis Egedy) as “a proper romantic, industrial goth pop song,” Heaven is a State of Mind delivers hypnotic mantras, pulsing darkwave percussion, and an undeniable sense of emotional transcendence. It’s not about finding heaven in the clouds—it’s about summoning it within yourself. “The idea of ‘Heaven’ as not some sort of physical destination, but as a state of being within yourself. Nirvana, basically,” says Egedy.
The track’s music video, directed by Matthew Rollins, leans hard into Pictureplane’s visual signature: industrial wastelands, high-contrast dream sequences, and an uncanny sense of romantic dread. It’s part sci-fi noir, part DIY goth opera, and exactly the kind of visual trip fans have come to crave from the Alien Body mastermind.
