Raindance Award-Nominated Psychological Thriller The Troll Set for World Premiere
The psychological horror-thriller The Troll will make its World Premiere at the 34th Raindance Film Festival on June 20, bringing a timely story about internet fame, obsession, and the darker side of online culture to one of the world's leading independent film showcases.
Selected as part of Raindance's Official Selection, the film has already earned recognition ahead of its debut, with filmmaker and star Brianna Lee receiving a nomination for Best Performance in a Debut Feature.
Written, directed, produced, and led by Lee, The Troll follows Killa B, a social media superstar whose life revolves around the attention and validation of millions of followers. When a single cruel online comment begins to consume her thoughts, Killa B becomes obsessed with identifying the anonymous user responsible.
What starts as an attempt to confront a critic quickly spirals into something far more dangerous.
As Killa B infiltrates the troll's personal life and begins disrupting his family, the lines between victim and aggressor blur, leading to a confrontation that explores the emotional and psychological consequences of life lived under constant public scrutiny.
The film stars Brianna Lee alongside Katy Frame (Men in Black 3, What Now?), Greg Saridakis, Alena Acker (And Just Like That, Law & Order), Matthew Eyre (Slow Down), Richard Mark Jordan (Tires), Jake Lesh (The Camper), and Dominick Cost (Tomorrow's Bandits).
Lee described the project as a personal exploration of online toxicity and the pressures that come with public visibility.
"The Troll was born from my fascination with the unseen violence of the internet," Lee explained. "As a performer, comedian, and filmmaker, I've experienced online cruelty firsthand, and I wanted to explore what happens when that pressure finally breaks someone."
Drawing inspiration from psychological thrillers such as Black Swan and Ingrid Goes West, the film blends surreal imagery with psychological tension while examining identity, fame, power, and mental health in the digital age.
The story arrives at a time when conversations surrounding social media influence, cyberbullying, and online harassment continue to dominate public discourse, making its themes particularly relevant.
