REVIEW: Affinity – Marco Zaror Goes Full Force in Brandon Slagle’s Ruthless Action Throwback

Marco Zaror stands bloodied and focused in a dimly lit warehouse, fists clenched and ready to strike in Affinity (2025), distributed by Well Go USA.
Marco Zaror unleashes hell in Affinity, a punishing new action film from Brandon Slagle.

Well Go USA – Digital Release September 30, 2025

Brandon Slagle’s Affinity is exactly the kind of no-frills, high-impact thriller that continues to fuel Well Go USA’s grip on the action market. Starring Marco Zaror—known globally for his punishing physicality and screen presence—the film doesn’t ask much of its audience, other than to sit back and let the chaos unfold.

Zaror plays Bruno, a soldier grappling with internal scars, external threats, and a dangerous new drug circulating in the shadows. What begins as a somber, quiet moment soon escalates into a relentless fight for survival, as Bruno becomes entangled in a conspiracy far deeper—and deadlier—than he anticipated.

What makes Affinity stand out is the sheer quality of its action. The fight choreography is sharp, clean, and brutal, allowing Zaror to stretch his range without ever losing that trademark Chilean Dragon explosiveness. Slagle wisely builds around his lead’s physical talents rather than overcomplicating the narrative.

Joining Zaror is Brooke Ence, who turns in a strong performance as a fellow soldier and trusted ally. Rather than forcing her into exaggerated combat scenarios, the film smartly leans into her real-life athletic background, giving her room to move without overreaching. There’s an authenticity to her scenes that anchors the more kinetic moments.

Stylistically, Affinity feels right at home alongside recent entries on the Hi-YAH! platform. The film rides the line between gritty realism and pulpy genre fare, occasionally flirting with melodrama through its post-production choices. Some of the music cues and visual edits might feel dated or overly stylized, but for fans of old-school martial arts thrillers, that may be part of the charm.

The pacing is fast, the tone stays serious, and the film never tries to be more than what it is: a lean, hard-hitting brawler built around character archetypes and clean, brutal fights. While it lacks narrative depth, its commitment to action and atmosphere makes it a solid watch for genre purists.

Final Score: 2.5 out of 5

Affinity doesn’t break new ground, but for those who show up for the action, it hits hard and doesn’t let up.
