Residents of New Haven’s Wooster Square got a glimpse of Hollywood yesterday as a film crew set up shop in their neighborhood. The project in question? Darren Lynn Bousman’s (Saw) latest thriller, The Monster.
According to IMDb, The Monster follows two millennials who scam unsuspecting buyers by flipping New York apartments they don’t own. The con runs smoothly—until they encounter an apartment owner with a dark and deadly secret who turns the tables on them.
The film stars Lauren LaVera (Terrifier 2 and 3), Oscar nominee Djimon Hounsou (Gladiator), and Mia Healy (Black Spartans, The Wilds). Onlookers snapped photos of the crew filming on Chapel Street, adding excitement to Connecticut’s growing reputation as a hub for film production. Recent local projects include Summerhouse, filmed in Danbury this past June, and Holly Jolly, a Christmas movie shot in Bethel last year.
The Monster is produced by Chair 10 Productions, which has created over 150 new jobs during the project. Additionally, the production company is launching its Veterans in Entertainment program in Connecticut, aiming to employ veterans on set as part of their commitment to supporting the community.
Cast and crew are taking a break for Thanksgiving but will resume filming shortly after. Check out some behind-the-scenes images captured by the New Haven Register!
