Shudder Acquires ‘Red Snow’ Ahead of Fantastic Fest World Premiere
Shudder has acquired Red Snow, the Finnish vampire Santa horror-comedy from writer-director Ilja Rautsi, ahead of its world premiere at Fantastic Fest.
The streaming service announced Friday that Red Snow will debut December 15, 2026. The film marks Rautsi’s feature directorial debut following his work as co-writer of Hatching and Nightborn.
A Christmas Vampire Story With a Bloody Twist
Set in Finland, Red Snow follows sixteen-year-old emo teen Johanna, who dreams of a glittering Twilight-style vampire prince. Instead, she encounters Martti, a balding, beer-bellied 49-year-old vampire who uses a Santa suit to enter homes and devour entire families.
When Johanna crosses paths with Martti on Christmas Eve, what she imagines as a dark fairy-tale romance quickly turns into a nightmare of family trauma, bloodshed and festive slaughter.
Hannu-Pekka Björkman and Anni Iikkanen lead the cast. The film is produced by Misha Jaari and Mark Lwoff for Bufo, with Ivo Felt co-producing for Allfilm and Peter Krupenin for HOBAB.
Shudder Lands the Film Before Its Fantastic Fest Debut
Rautsi described Red Snow as a project born from his lifelong love of horror and said he was thrilled the film would be widely available through Shudder.
Shudder executive Emily Gotto called the film the kind of wild, original genre filmmaking the service’s audience embraces, highlighting its blend of humor, blood and Christmas horror.
The acquisition was negotiated by Emily Gotto on behalf of Shudder and Charades on behalf of the filmmakers.
Red Snow makes its world premiere at Fantastic Fest on September 20 before streaming exclusively on Shudder beginning December 15.
