HO-HO-HORROR: Production Officially Begins on the Silent Night, Deadly Night Reboot

Mike P. Nelson directs the new bloody sleigh ride with original 1984 producers on board

They’re checking the list, loading the sleigh, and bringing back one of the most infamous slashers in holiday horror history.

This week in Winnipeg, production officially began on the highly anticipated reboot of Silent Night, Deadly Night, the cult classic that turned Christmas into carnage back in 1984. Now, with Mike P. Nelson (Wrong Turn, V/H/S/85) at the helm and the backing of Cineverse and Bloody Disgusting, this new version promises a blood-soaked gift for genre fans old and new.

Ruby Modine (Happy Death Day) will star as Pamela, alongside Rohan Campbell (The Hardy Boys, Halloween Ends), who takes on the role of twisted protagonist Billy Chapman. Rounding out the cast are Mark Acheson, David Lawrence Brown, and David Tomlinson—and trust us, this sleigh is loaded.

But this isn’t just a name-drop reboot—it’s a reunion. Scott Schneid and Dennis Whitehead, the producers behind the original 1984 slasher, are back in the mix. They’ve teamed up with New Dimension’s Jamie R. Thompson (Old Henry), Rebel 6’s Erik Bernard, and White Bear Films’ Jeremy Torrie. Cineverse’s horror leads Brandon Hill and Brad Miska (Terrifier 3) are also executive producing. Rounding out the team are Steven Schneider (Insidious), Anthony Masi (Halloween: 25 Years of Terror), and Sarah Eilts, with financing from Bondit Media Capital and the Royal Bank of Canada. Distribution outside North America will be handled by Sixth Dimension, the new genre division of StudioCanal.

Behind the camera, the crew includes Director of Photography Nick Junkersfeld, Production Designer Oscar Fenogolio, Costume Designer Laura DeLuca, Special Effects Lead Doug Morrow, Stunt Coordinator Kristen Sawatzky, and music by Blitz Berlin. Casting is led by Jim Weber, with Tanya Brunel as Line Producer.

The original Silent Night, Deadly Night caused an uproar upon its release, quickly becoming the most controversial film of 1984. Parents protested theaters, calling for the film to be pulled due to its killer-Santa imagery. Tri-Star, the film’s original distributor, eventually pulled the film from release—ironically cementing its status as a horror cult classic. According to Bloody Disgusting, it was that very act of censorship that turned the movie into one of the decade’s most must-see slashers.

Producer Scott Schneid reflected on the film’s legacy, saying, “Silent Night, Deadly Night has become a beloved cult classic since my partner Dennis and I created it with Michael Hickey over 40 years ago. Den and I are huge fans of Mike’s work, and his unique talents have reinvented the spirit of the original, taking us on a slayride that audiences won’t soon forget.”

Cineverse Chief Content Officer Yolanda Macias added, “As production officially kicks off this week, we are excited about the magic that is being made with both the original team behind the 1984 classic teaming up with a new vision from Mike P. Nelson. We are delighted to welcome fans back into the Silent Night, Deadly Night universe with a reimagining that is sure to bring lots of merry mayhem.”

This version of Silent Night, Deadly Night is shaping up to be more than a nostalgia trip—it’s a legacy reinvention. With a new team of genre powerhouses steering the sleigh and the original creators riding shotgun, this reboot is poised to bring the right mix of reverence, rage, and red-stained tinsel.
